Class description
Join in this hand-building deep dive and you'll learn all three classic hand building techniques. You'll also learn decorating techniques like banding, sgraffito or just simple hand painting. By the end, you'll have two pieces of fun-ctional, waterproof ceramics and a new hobby! What's the (loose) schedule? Week 1: Pinch Potting Week 2: Coil Building Week 3: Slab Building Week 4: Working on your pieces Week 5: Decorating and using underglaze. What's included? Enough clay to practise, make mistakes and also make beautiful pieces. All the tools for building and decorating. Colourful underglaze (pigmented slip or slip-like paint that allows you to do intricate designs). Good quality acrylic paint and sealant to paint your pieces you don't want fired. (Many things can be made without having to be fired, like key and jewellery bowls, sculptures, tea light holders, basically anything that can be left not waterproof). Classic arty music like Express Yourself by Charles Wright. Ruby to help, guide and give inspiration. Also Ruby to glaze your pieces which will make them waterproof and usable as cups bowls plates or whatever else you make.* What to bring? Yourself and some patience, wheel throwing can be frustrating, but we promise, it's worth it. Other important info: All ages! Under 15s must be accompanied by an adult. *Sadly, you won't get to glaze your piece yourself, just underglaze (which is the colourful fun bit anyway). We use a public kiln right now and 5 weeks isn't enough time to make the pieces you want, paint them all pretty AND glaze them. But don't worry, Ruby will take good care of them. Also, because we use a public kiln your pottery will take 5-6 weeks after the last class before you can come pick it up. Two pieces fired and glazed are included in the class cost but it is $25 extra per piece after that. PLEASE NOTE: We will only keep your finished pieces for 3 months after they're finished. Then we'll have to donate it or throw it our because we don't have the space! Sorry :/
